According to Esquire, Idris Elba is close to finally landing the role of James Bond. While Daniel Craig has been confirmed to return once more to the role of 007, Bond franchise producer Barbara Broccoli has reportedly announced that the door is open for a black 007 in the future, once Daniel Craig has completed his final outing as the spy.

The Daily Star reports that director Antonie Fuqua revealed the details of a conversation with Broccoli, in which she said "it is time" for a non-white actor to take on the iconic role. With this revelation, Idris Elba, who has long been the frontrunner to replace Daniel Craig for the coveted role, has leaped to the top of the list to become the next Bond.

The next installment in the James Bond film series is already in the works, with director Danny Boyle already working on the script with Trainspotting scribe John Hodge. Hopefully, the next film in the Bond franchise features a fresh new face, and we wouldn't be mad if it turns out to be Idris Elba.
