With the latest edition of MOBO UnSung just around the corner, we took the opportunity to catch up with our 2016 crowned winner, Alika!
Having found success with the release of her hit Billboard record "Wavy" alongside Cliq, as well as inking a publishing deal with the world-renowned Downtown Music Publishing, Alika has gone on to achieve some incredible feats since winning MOBO UnSung. Here, she opens up about why she applied for MOBO UnSung, what she learned from the process and why other emerging talents should consider applying.

Why did you decide to apply for MOBO UnSung?

I felt like I was at a point in my journey where I needed a break on a bigger platform.

How has MOBO UnSung helped your career?

Having a platform as big as MOBO champion me opened many doors for me, especially in terms of making connections with helpful & talented people. If it wasn’t for the experience I would not have met my manager who has been instrumental in my growth.

What are some of the key lessons you learned from the MOBO UnSung program?

To always give your all and never look at your journey as a competition. I’ve seen many of the Top 20 finalists from my year go on do such amazing things in their own right and it’s beautiful to see.

What would be one of the top tips you would give to the 2018 MOBO UnSung applicants?

Be confident and don’t be afraid to ask for support from anyone. Get to know the other applicants and make the most out of every part of the process!

Would you encourage emerging artists to apply? If so, why?

I would encourage emerging artists to apply because I really believe that it’s important to make the most of every possible opportunity that could further your growth and career. MOBO UnSung is one of those opportunities as there’s no limit on who and how many amazing people you will meet that can help you advance to where you want to be. MOBO is such a well-respected organisation, so the opportunities are endless.
