In the 37 years since his death, numerous attempts have been made to recount his prolific life in film.

While a handful of documentaries have recounted the music icon’s life story, the next hope for Bob Marley fans is to see the iconic musician immortalized on the big screen. Well, as Deadline reports, that is happening sooner than we think.

The reggae legend, who died in May 1981 at the age of 36, will be the focus of a new biopic, which is being developed by the late icon’s son Ziggy Marley in collaboration with Paramount Pictures.

The project is still in its early stages of development, with no directors, actors, writers or producers currently attached to the project. The upcoming film will follow the release of the 2012 film Marley, which featured archive footage and interviews of Marley. Directed by Kevin Macdonald, the film was released to critical acclaim.

A Bob Marley biopic has been a long time coming. And with members of the Marley family attached to the project, we have great expectations for this biopic.
