Stormzy was the leading man at the Brit Awards last night (Feb 22), scooping two awards for Best Male Solo Artist and Album Of The Year. Closing the show with a riveting performance of ‘Blinded By Your Grace’ and ‘Big For Your Boots’, the MOBO Award-winner also used his platform to take aim at Theresa May and the Daily Mail.

With rain falling, Stormzy called out May and the Daily Mail, delivering the lyrics in a new freestyle, “Theresa May where’s the money for Grenfell? / What you thought we just forgot about Grenfell?” and suggesting that the Daily Mail “suck my dick”.

Speaking on the performance with BBC Newsbeat after the BRITs, Stormzy said:

"I didn't want to just come here as an artist like 'It's the Stormzy show' [and] clean up at the Brits - it's all about me. This is bigger than me [and] if I can use my voice to say something that's bigger than me. I don't want this to be about me. It's not about me - it's about Grenfell and it's about all the things I said in a lyric. This is bigger than me."

Stormzy's performance drew a lot of praise online, with Jeremy Corbyn even congrtualing him on his powerful performance.

UPDATE: Theresa May has said she is “absolutely committed” to supporting those affected by the Grenfell Tower tragedy, after Stormzy called her out for criticism during the Brit Awards, Huffington Post reports.

A Downing Street spokesperson responded to the controversy, claiming Mrs May continues to support the victims of Grenfell.

“The Prime Minister has been very clear that Grenfell is an unimaginable tragedy that should never be allowed to happen again. The public inquiry was set up by the Prime Minister to establish what went so tragically wrong and why people weren’t listened to for so many years."

"She has met with the families and survivors on a number of occasions.”
